And kept an eye out for witches on flying brooms
Longed to own flying carpets and magic wands
And rubbed your lamps hard hoping for some genies
And read tales of wizards and goblins and gnomes
When you could dream of building homes
From a choicest assortment of chocolates
And splashed colours on the walls
And grown-ups invariably marvelled
At random dabblings from your palletes
And they wondered how your imagination worked
And where they had dropped theirs in the act
And you merrily continued
To bask in the warmth of your innocence
With no need for diplomacy or disguises of tact
When you spread your love with no restraint
And everyone found shelter in your little heart
Everyday was a merry celebration
When even your cats and dogs cuddled together
Before you were taught to keep them apart
By unimaginative grown-ups on a conventional route
Who dragged you into a world
Of geometrical accuracies and numerical rhymes
Of set patterns and rigid thoughts
Of sworn enemies, and souls lifelessly cold
And your pups and kittens grew up too
And learnt the same lessons of apparent wisdom
And they never climbed onto your lap together
Where one was to be seen, the other forgotten
In fact, there were seen together seldom
And then you were faced with an impossible choice
The kitten or the pup, the pup or the kitten
I don't know the lucky one you estranged,
And the other, not so fortunate, you dragged along
With you on the grown-ups' path, oft trodden.

hello elegance
the hands that built
castles of mud sand and water
were not washed with dettol
tree houses for play
you have to have a tree your way..!!
could do with a genie la..
.....set patterns and rigid thoughts

the pups and kittens
spring on to my lap..
